"Home is the one place in all this world where hearts are sure of each other. It is the place of confidence. It is the place where we tear off that mask of guarded and suspicious coldness which the world forces us to wear in self-defense, and where we pour out the unreserved communications of full and confiding hearts. It is the spot where expressions of tenderness gush out without any sensation of awkwardness and without any dread of ridicule.”
- Frederick W. Robertson
Opening up your home and heart to a person you barely know in a strange new state can be a little overwhelming, I'm sure. When I first met with this beautiful Mama to talk about our session, she shared about their recent move here from Louisiana. I could tell she was homesick, longing to retreat back to the comfortable ground they were rooted in. If you've ever planted something and then transplanted it, you'd know that sometimes it takes a while for vulnerable roots to settle into new soil and strengthen. It often looks like you might've made a mistake by uprooting something so complacent, but with a little love and sunshine those roots can hold strong and adapt, learning to grow where they were planted. And, so it is with this family. Their roots are strengthening and bringing forth new life in a new bit of earth.
It's an incredible feeling when people trust you to capture their dynamic of family in the most authentic way. Often times, especially in these days of social media, I find that families I photograph always seem to have a bit of underlying anxiety of, "We have to look picture perfect". Can I tell you something? If you love your life and think it's already pretty perfect in your eyes, then it will look pretty perfect in photographs. I think what people get so stressed out about is feeling like they have to "look" perfect for everyone else to see, but they don't realize their own dynamic of happiness is perfect already! :)
Chidester fam, I hope the South Carolina sunshine continues to warm your hearts. Your growing family is beautiful and your dedicated love for each other is something that surly shines bright as the sun. Lots of love & hugs to you guys!
