THE TROTTER FAMILY AT PALMETTO TRAIL

There is so much I love about this session.

Look, if outfit matching and looking at the camera the whole time is your thing- that’s totally fine! I’ll capture it for ya.

But this…

Presence…

This is what feeds my soul when I’m photographing families. This is what your children deserve photos of.

You being present with your family.

Your little girl wants to wear Minecraft shoes with her pretty dress and bring her oversized unicorn stuffy with her? Let her! I bet you don’t focus on that in the photos below, do ya?

Play with your kids. Let them play. Help them explore the world around them.

Make eye contact with your spouse. Talk to each other. LAUGH!

I’ll take care of things like directing you where to sit, walk, etc.

& I promise you do get photos of everyone looking at the camera because I know they’re important, too! I just can’t stress enough how important it is to forget the idea of trying to look “perfect” in photos.
When your children look back at photos of you and their family, they’re most likely going to skip over the perfectly posed ones and spend a little more time looking at the ones that capture movement, emotion, real moments, “real” smiles.

Presence over perfection.

The Mama here is almost finished writing her book, “A Tree Swing Called Belonging”. I don’t even know how we found each other on instagram, but I’m so thankful we did! She is the most caring and compassionate woman I’ve met in a long time. I value her friendship so very much. She has encouraged me and offered advice on mothering during the really challenging times. If you’re on instagram, be sure to give her a follow! (@dandelionwonderart)
